Why this guide: about 4,400 people a month search Google for “best time to visit paris” (US, DataForSEO Labs, September 2026). This is the answer we would give a client, written to be booked from.
The short answer
- Best overallMid-April–June and September–mid-October
- CheapestJanuary–February (excluding Fashion Week) and November
- AvoidAugust if you want Parisian Paris (many bistros and boutiques close); late September/early October and early March Fashion Weeks for hotel rates
Spring (April–June)
Chestnuts blossom along the Seine in April, the café terraces fill, and daytime highs climb from 15°C to 24°C by June. It is the most popular season for good reason and hotel rates reflect it; book by January for May and June. Roland-Garros (late May–early June) and the Paris Air Show in odd years add pressure on rooms.
Summer (July–August)
July is warm (25°C average, heatwaves to 35°C), with Bastille Day fireworks on the 14th and Paris Plages turning the quays into beaches. In August, Parisians leave: many neighbourhood restaurants, bakeries and independent shops close for two to four weeks, but the museums stay open, the streets are quiet and hotel rates soften — a divisive month that some visitors love.
Autumn (September–November)
September is the rentrée — the city returns to work, the weather holds at 20–22°C, and the cultural season opens. Paris Fashion Week (late September–early October) doubles hotel rates in the 1st, 8th and 16th for about ten days. October is mellow and golden; November is grey, wet and cheap, with the Christmas lights switched on along the Champs-Élysées in the last week.
Winter (December–March)
December has the markets (Tuileries, La Défense) and window displays at Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, plus a price bump around Christmas and New Year. January and February are the bargain months — cold (3–8°C) and short-dayed, but the Louvre without queues and the winter sales (soldes) from the second week of January. Watch for the men's and haute couture Fashion Weeks in January and early March.
Booking from the engine
Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is 45–60 minutes from the centre by car; Orly (ORY) 30–40. The engine's Paris destination page is built around CDG. A pre-booked chauffeur is the civilised arrival — see our Eiffel Tower guide for where to stay by arrondissement.
Three things to get right
- Late September: warm, Parisians back, tourists fewer — dodge Fashion Week.
- August is quiet and cheaper, but check your favourite bistro is open.
- January sales start the second week — and the museums are empty.
