Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Mexico: Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and the Coasts Between

Mexico has two all-inclusive coasts with different rules: the Caribbean, where you swim off the beach, and the Pacific, where at Los Cabos you mostly cannot. Decide which sea first.

Why this guide: about 12,100 people a month search Google for “best all inclusive resorts in mexico” (US, DataForSEO Labs, September 2026). This is the answer we would give a client, written to be booked from.

The short answer

  • Caribbean (swimmable)Le Blanc Cancun, Grand Velas Riviera Maya, Excellence Playa Mujeres, Hyatt Ziva Cancun, Secrets Maroma
  • Los Cabos (mostly not)Le Blanc Los Cabos, Grand Velas Los Cabos, Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos (swimmable cove), Pueblo Bonito Pacifica
  • Pacific (swimmable bays)Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta, Secrets Vallarta Bay, Marival Armony, Las Brisas Ixtapa

The Caribbean coast

Cancun, Playa Mujeres and the Riviera Maya have the swimmable turquoise sea, the cenotes and the Maya ruins, and the deepest all-inclusive bench: Le Blanc and Kempinski in the Hotel Zone, Excellence and Finest at Playa Mujeres, Grand Velas, Unico 20°87°, Secrets Maroma and Hotel Xcaret in the Riviera Maya. Cozumel (Secrets Aura, Iberostar Cozumel) for divers on the Mesoamerican Reef. See our Cancun resort guide for the detail; December–April is the season, with sargassum on the east-facing beaches from May to October.

Los Cabos

The Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez at the tip of Baja: dramatic, dry, sunny and expensive, and most of the beaches have red flags — rip currents make them unswimmable. The exceptions are Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas, the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos cove, Chileno and Santa Maria bays, and Palmilla. Le Blanc Los Cabos and Grand Velas Los Cabos are the luxury all-inclusives (pool-focused); Pueblo Bonito Pacifica for adults on the Pacific side; Paradisus Los Cabos on a swimmable beach. Whale season (December–April) is the extra.

Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit

Banderas Bay is calm and swimmable, with jungle behind the beach and a real town (Puerto Vallarta's Malecón and Zona Romántica) to walk to. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit in Nuevo Vallarta is the luxury benchmark; Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta on its own cove south of town; Secrets Vallarta Bay and Dreams; Marival Armony and Iberostar Playa Mita on the Punta Mita end; Hotel Mousai for adults. Whales in the bay December–March; the sea is warm year-round; humidity in summer.

The rest of the Pacific

Ixtapa (Club Med, Las Brisas Ixtapa) and its fishing-village neighbour Zihuatanejo for a quieter, older-Mexico feel; Huatulco's nine bays in Oaxaca (Secrets Huatulco, Dreams) for the emptiest beaches and the nearest thing to undeveloped; Mazatlán (Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay, Riu) for value and the old town; Acapulco is a different story now. All are warm year-round; October–May for the dry season.

Booking it

The engine has destination pages for Cancun, Cozumel, Los Cabos (via the Mexico search), Puerto Vallarta and Huatulco, and the Resort Collection filters all-inclusives by coast; Vacation Packages bundle the flight — most of these resorts are 20–45 minutes from CUN, SJD, PVR or ZIH, and a pre-booked chauffeur is the standard arrival. See our best time to visit Mexico and Cancun guides for the price calendar.

Three things to get right

  • Caribbean for swimming off the beach; Los Cabos for pools, whales and the desert.
  • Puerto Vallarta's bay is the swimmable Pacific with a real town.
  • Ask whether the beach is swimmable before you book anywhere in Los Cabos.

What is the best all-inclusive resort in Mexico?

Grand Velas — Riviera Maya, Riviera Nayarit or Los Cabos — for the food and the service; Le Blanc Cancun for the spa; Excellence Playa Mujeres for couples on a calm beach.

Can you swim at Los Cabos resorts?

At most, no — the Pacific rip currents put red flags on most beaches; Medano Beach, the Hyatt Ziva cove, Chileno and Santa Maria bays are the swimmable exceptions.

Is Cancun or Cabo better?

Cancun for the swimmable Caribbean, cenotes and ruins at lower prices; Cabo for the desert-meets-sea drama, whales, golf and the celebrity end of luxury.
