Why this guide: about 74,000 people a month search Google for “things to do in orlando” (US, DataForSEO Labs, September 2026). This is the answer we would give a client, written to be booked from.
The short answer
- Do firstMagic Kingdom on a low-crowd weekday, Epic Universe with a reservation, and a Kennedy Space Center day
- FreeDisney Springs and CityWalk, Lake Eola, Winter Park's Park Avenue, the Boardwalk
- SkipBuying every park's add-on — pick Lightning Lane or Express for one park, not all
Walt Disney World
Four parks: Magic Kingdom (the castle, the classics, the fireworks), EPCOT (World Showcase's eleven countries, the festival calendar), Hollywood Studios (Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, Toy Story Land) and Animal Kingdom (Pandora, the Kilimanjaro Safaris). Two days for the Kingdom, one each for the others; buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass for the Kingdom and Studios if crowds are high, and book dining 60 days out. Water parks Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach alternate seasonally.
Universal
Epic Universe (opened 2025) is the newest — Super Nintendo World, the Ministry of Magic, How to Train Your Dragon — and the hardest ticket; Islands of Adventure has Hagrid's and VelociCoaster, Universal Studios has Diagon Alley. The Hogwarts Express runs between the older two with a park-to-park ticket. Express Pass is worth it in peak weeks; on-site premium hotels include it.
Beyond the parks
Kennedy Space Center (an hour east) is a full day — the Saturn V, the Atlantis orbiter, and launch viewing if the schedule cooperates. SeaWorld and Discovery Cove (swim with dolphins, limited capacity) are the third park group. Gatorland is the old-Florida alternative. LEGOLAND is 45 minutes south for the under-tens.
The real Orlando
Winter Park: the Morse Museum's Tiffany glass, the scenic boat tour through the lakes, Park Avenue's cafés. Wekiwa Springs and Blue Spring (manatees, November–March) are the swims; Kelly Park's Rock Springs run is the lazy river nature built. Lake Eola's swan boats and the Thornton Park restaurants are downtown's evening; Mills 50 is the Vietnamese food district.
Booking it
Orlando International (MCO) is 25–35 minutes from Disney and 20 from Universal. The engine's Orlando page and Vacation Packages bundle flights and hotels; a pre-booked chauffeur or a car rental replaces the resort shuttle queue. Off-site hotels on International Drive and Lake Buena Vista are far cheaper than on-property; on-property buys early entry and the transport network.
Three things to get right
- Late January–early February and September are the low-crowd windows.
- Park reservations and Epic Universe timed entry sell out — book with the ticket.
- Springs and Kennedy give the family a non-park day that everyone remembers.
